The World Team Championships takes place on 17th October 2026.
In our first participation in the World Championships in October 2024, Team Bermuda achieved a very creditable 50th place, with an aggregate of 220 laps. 10 members of our team ran new personal best distances, including our assist, Florin Teleman, and winner Jason Williams, who also set a new national record (at the time) of 28 hours. As a result of his victory, and by virtue of the race lasting more than 24 hours, Jason also qualified for Big Dog's Backyard, the 2025 Individual World Championships, in Tennessee.
We intend to enter a Bermuda team in the next World Team Championships in 2028. Each country's team runs on its home course, all countries starting at exactly the same time (i.e. it might be a 2 am start in Australia). The qualifying period for performances to be considered for team selection runs from August 2026 to August 2028 (exact dates TBC)
For the Bermuda national team we have adopted the following selection criteria:
-
Silver medal winners (our national Champions) during the qualifying period), plus...
-
Remaining places to be awarded to those with the best Backyard results during the qualifying period (at any Backyard recognised by the Backyard Ultra Organisation including Bermuda events). Please let us know your result from any other Backyards you compete in.
-
Ties (including for order of alternates) settled by drawing of lots.
The team score is determined by the aggregate number of laps of all 15 runners. The last runner standing will also be crowned Bermuda national champion.
Supporters are welcomed, but please remember that you may not provide any support to runners (e.g., food, drink, medical supplies), except between loops.
